The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 4.99 billion square meter equivalents in December, down 8.1 percent from November but up 4.0 percent from December 2016. Textile imports totaled 3.08 billion SME, down 7.5 percent for the month but up 9.2 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 1.92 billion SME were down 8.1 percent from November and 3.5 percent from a year before.
For all of 2017 imports were 64.9 billion SME, up 3.2 percent from 2016, as textile imports rose 5.1 percent to 37.8 billion SME and apparel imports gained 0.8 percent to 27.1 billion SME.
