Global export of natural fibre apparels (excl cotton) down

The global export of apparels of natural fibres excluding cotton including men’s or boy’s overcoats, carcoats, capes, cloaks, anoraks (including ski-jackets), windcheaters, wind-jackets and similar articles, knitted or crocheted, other than those of heading grew 14.88 per cent from $177.33 million in the year 2017 to $203.71 million in 2019.

The global import value of apparels of natural fibres excluding cotton was $139.23 million in 2017, which rose 9.59 per cent to $152.59 million in 2019. Total imports slightly declined 0.93 per cent in 2019 over the previous year and is expected to decrease to $146.50 million in 2022 with a rate of 3.99 per cent from 2019.

Indonesia ($52.92 million), Italy ($44.77 million) and France ($13.02 million) were the key exporters of apparels of natural fibres excluding cotton across the globe in 2019, together comprising 54.35 per cent of total export. These were followed by Pakistan ($11.30 million), UK ($7.55 million) and Germany ($7.37 million).

From 2016 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export value, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by France (51.65 per cent) and Italy (42.72 per cent).

UK ($16.71 million), Germany ($14.96 million), France ($13.57 million), US ($9.97 million) and Hong Kong ($9.96 million) were the key importers of natural fibres excluding cotton apparels in the globe in 2019, together comprising 42.71 per cent of total import. These were followed by Italy ($8.30 million), Poland ($5.28 million) and Austria ($4.79 million).

From 2016 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of import value, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Hong Kong (175.16 per cent), Germany (80.39 per cent), France (35.18 per cent) and UK (18.30 per cent).
